In the device manager, there is an UNKNOWN DEVICE is seen under the usb controllers.

And in the status of that UNKNOWN DEVICE, it is seen that the driver file for this device is not loaded.

I want to connect my camcorder to pc through usb end -firewire end cable.

Then you can use a firewire cable and not the firewireUSB cable that is not working.

It is possible that the application is looking for a firewire connection - not USB.

When i connect it to my pc(windows) it recognizes it only when im transfering pictures but when i try to transfer a video, my pc cant find my camcorder and disconnects from each other.

Im using a USB cable like the ipod wire, can this be the problem.

Using the identical cable and USB port, the pc does not recognise the camcorder ie it doesnt show it as a removable drive.

You may need to add a firewire port to your computer - and get a Firewire cable - they are not normally included in the box with the camcorder when you buy it.

Is it a hard drive based unit If yes, and the hard drive is not mounting, did you install the drivers Hard drive based camcorders would normally mount via USB.

Is it a DVD based unit If yes, you do not transfer video by connecting the camcorder - take the DVD out of the camera (you may need to finalize the disc in the camera depending on the disc used), put the disc in the DVD drive of the computer and rip the DVD using a DVD ripper.

The cddvd drive on our pc doesnt recognise DVD-RAM discs, which is what we have, and there were no instructions in the manual for copying data from the discs to a pc.

One question - if I could use a DVD ripper, would that be able to copy the data back to another dvd.

Is it a CD drive (not a DVD drive) If that is the case, you need a drive that can handle DVD formatted discs.
